Diagramme als Bild oder HTML anzeigen?

Soll man für die Anzeige von Diagrammen Bilder oder ein HTML-Code verwenden? Diese Frage beantwortete John Müller von Google während eines Google Webmaster Central Hangouts. Ein Website Betreibender hatte diese Frage nämlich John Müller gestellt. Wie stellt man am besten Diagramme mit Daten auf einer Website dar?

John Müllers Antwort hierauf ist, dass er nichts falsches darin sieht Diagramme als Bilder anzuzeigen, sondern er empfiehlt es sogar eher Diagramme als Bilder darzustellen. Da man bei Bildern durch Verwendung des alt-Attributs auch Personen den Inhalt mitteilen kann, die das Bild nicht sehen können.

“I think it depends a bit on what you want to achieve with the chart. Usually, these kind of things I would just add as an image and make sure that you have an understandable alt attribute for the image as well.

So if there’s any critical information in that chart that you need to get across then put it in the alt attributes. So that we can pick it up as text, so that people who can’t see the image can also get that information. But in general I would just use images.”
